Android One e Progetto Ara: ne hai già sentito parlare? Forse starai pensando:“Hmm. Ara? AndroidOne? Ma che dici?”Ok, continua a leggere più in basso, e conoscerai la prossima rivoluzione made in Google. 1. La prima rivoluzione. Lo sapevi? Il più importante motore di ricerca non è ancora maggiorenne.Pensaci un po'. Tu lo usi da molto tempo? Io almeno da dieci anni. Prima usavo Altavista o Northernlight.Mai sentiti? Furono tra i primi motori di ricerca. Avevano una grafica pesante; sfondi colorati, troppi testi e troppa pubblicità. Adesso sono estinti come i dinosauri. E la cosa non sorprende più di tanto. Doveva succedere; l'ho capito sin dalla prima volta che ho usato Google. C'era qualcosa di magnetico nella sua semplice e candida homepage.Una specie di sensazione di libertà. Tipo entrare in autostrada, in una serena mattinata estiva.Verso dove? Verso la conoscenza.E dopo tutti questi anni la penso sempre allo stesso modo (ieri sono capitato su Bing, e c'era un ghepardo che mi guardava... ma per favore!) Gradualmente, senza che nessuno se ne accorgesse, l'espressione “cercalo su internet” è cambiata in “trovalo su google”. E in futuro? Mah. C'è già chi dice gugolare... E lo smartphone? Lo chiameremo sempre così? Oppure un giorno si dirà semplicemente Ara.O magari Android One? 2. BigG e gli smartphones.Google non è più soltanto un motore di ricerca.Lo sappiamo. E' un'azienda enorme, con un fatturato stratosferico che trova origine in una miriade attività. Una di queste è la tecnologia d'avanguardia. Alcuni esempi? Google glass, Google Chromecast, e la gamma di telefoni Nexus (non molto famosi in Italia, acquistabili solo via internet). Progetti di successo. Ma per lottare contro Microsoft e Mac ci vuol ben altro.I possessori di smartphone - oggi - sono quasi due miliardi. E lo usano per accedere a internet, ogni giorno di più.Tramite Google? Chissà. Se lo chiedono anche a Mountain View, e la nuova sfida è proprio questa: dare un cellulare a tutti gli altri.Al resto del mondo. A cinque miliardi di persone Come? Con due avveniristici progetti: la piattaforma Ara (su Twitter la chiamano #AraDev), ed AndroidOne. 3. Android One.Cos'è Android One?Tiriamo a indovinare: "Un'altra versione del famoso sistema operativo per cellulari?". No. Sei fuori strada. E' un nuovo smartphone, lanciato il 15 Settembre 2014; ed è incredibilmente economico, forse il più economico.Alcune caratteristiche: android 4.4.4 (aggiornabile automaticamente per due anni), 4.5” display, processore 1.3 GHz , 1GB di RAM, 4GB di memoria (espandibile fino a 32GB). Il prezzo? 85 Euro, più o meno.Lo puoi comprare anche adesso, su internet. Ma solo se ti trovi in India. Hanno in programma - in effetti - di venderlo anche altrove, ma gradualmente. Perchè - nei piani di BigG - il primo miliardo di persone, dei cinque che mancano, deve essere indiano. Ed è per proprio per aiutare gli indiani ad accedere ad internet che Google ha varato il progetto Verylite (leggi cos'è sul nostro sito, cliccando sulla scritta blu).Android One. Chissà quando potremo comprarlo qui da noi...Forse arriva prima Project Ara. 4. Project Ara.Immagina di smontare e rimontare il tuo telefono come fosse il Lego. Vediamo come.Giocando un po'. Prima mi compro il telaio centrale (detto Endoskeleton, ma per gli amici solo "Endo"; sviluppato con tecnologia Motorola). Poi davanti ci metto un bel display e magari una tastiera fisica (tipo Blackberry). E nella parte posteriore? Di tutto... Una telecamera, una radio, un pin pad con la stampante, un metal detector, un misuratore laser, e così via. E se vado a correre? Ci metto il contapassi. Fantascienza? Forse.Ma presto diventerà realtà (nel secondo trimestre del 2015 - Q2 - mercato pilota: Portorico). Ara è il nuovo telefonino modulare. E' quasi pronto, ma di ordinazioni non se ne parla. Servirà a Google per conquistare il mondo? Lo scopriremo solo vivendo.5. Aggiornamento.Il Progetto Ara è stato sospeso. Per approfondire. And you'll be aware of Google's next revolution.1. The first revolution. The most widely used search engine is still a teenager, could you tell? When did you use it first? In my case more than ten years ago, probably. Before I was using Altavista or Northern Light. Ever heard about them? They were two search engines with a confusing layout, full of text, lots of ads, and an unclear background. Now they're extinct web dinosaurs. And it's not surprising. It had to happen, I knew it as soon as I used Google. Finding myself for the first time in front of that clean white homepage gave me a fantastic feeling of freedom. You know. Kind of like the feeling you get entering a freeway on a sunny summer morning. A freeway heading to knowledge. And after all these years it’s still like that (yesterday on Bing there was a cheetah looking at me... please!) In the meantime “look for it in the Internet” had gradually turned into “look for it with Google”. And now?Just google it! Now then. What about the smartphone? What's the way we'll call it in the future? Ara or Android One? 2. BigG and the smartphones. We all know Google is not just a search engine. Not anymore. It's a huge company with incredible revenues coming from a wide range of different fields. One of them is advanced technology. For example Google Glass, Google Chromecast, and Nexus smartphones. Successful projects indeed. But still not enough when compared to the power of Mac and Microsoft. Today mobile surfers number almost two billion. And they use Internet through portable devices, more and more every day. Recently Google publicly declared an astonishing new challenge: give smartphones to the rest of the world. Five billion people. How? With two extremely ambitious projects: Android One and the Ara platform (also called #Aradev on Twitter). 3. Android One. What is Android One? You might be guessing: "just one more release of the famous mobile operating system". Nope. It's a new smartphone that was released on September 15th, 2014. And it's very affordable. Probably the cheapest. Here are some of its features: Android 4.4.4 (receiving automatic updates for two years), 4.5” display, 1.3 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage (expandable up to 32GB). The price? 106 bucks, more or less. You can buy it right now on the internet. But only if you are in India. In fact they plan to sell it worldwide, gradually. But not for now. Because the first of the five billion people we were talking about, has got to be from India. And to help Indian people surfing the web from a smartphone, Google also announced the Verylite project (read about it on our website, by clicking on the blue text). 4. The Ara Project. Imagine assembling your smartphone like a Lego game. Let’s play this game together. I buy myself an Endoskeleton (“Endo”, for friends). And on the front I would put a big display and maybe a physical keyboard (the Blackberry way). And on the back? Everything I could. A camera, a radio, a pin pad with a little printer, a metal detector, a laser distance meter... And if I go jogging? I put on a step counter. And if I’m traveling to Fukushima? I put on a geiger counter. Science fiction? Probably, but in Q2, 2015 it'll be reality. Ara is a new concept of modular smartphone. And it's almost ready. Will it help Google to conquer the world?
